First a person is sure to ask, what
the heck is WPIAL? For those of us living in Western Pennsylvania it
means our high school sports league. High schools are in one of 4
classes depending on their student enrollment. Officially WPIAL
stands for Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League.
There, I said it.
Next, one asks, who the heck is Stretch? Stretch is my old high
school buddy who loves everything sports. He's one of those out of
town Steeler fans you always read about, part of the Steelers Nation
in Virginia. Beyond that, he still loves his other Pittsburgh teams
as well. He really gets the raspberries from his co-workers when his teams lose.

So I asked Stretch the other day in an email, what would add value
to this Sport Spheres website? His first answer (of course) was photos
of women, not saying what stage of dress or undress they should be
in. Use your imagination. Beyond that bright idea was his gripe that he has a tough
time finding football news about his old alma mater, Upper St. Clair
High School. Okay, now that's something we can work with. So while
we're at it, why not
include the other 100+ football teams in the WPIAL? Something for
everybody.
My first challenge was finding all the team nicknames, so that our news
bar, blog bar and video features would work properly. That required a great
deal of web research, followed by a final half dozen phone calls for
the last ones. Whew! You've got your Lions, Tigers and Bears, as well as
a host of Indians, Trojans and Rams. But what the heck is a Bearcat?
From there it was on to web page construction, of which this Blog
announces final completion. Five new pages cover the WPIAL. So check it out,
most WPIAL teams have their own
news, blog and video sections. Stretch can stay right up to date with his
Panthers now!
