We sure got spoiled by the
NFL of the 70's
Continuity
"An uninterrupted succession or unbroken course"
Webster's Dictionary
Spoiled in the 70's...
You probably think this is about winning 4 Lombardi trophies in 6
years. The Steelers did just that in Super Bowls IX, X, XIII and XIV. Pittsburgh became the City of Champions.
No, this blog is about the continuity of NFL players and coaches in
the 1970's. Back in the days before it all changed. The NFL was more
like college football back then. A player would join a team and stay
with them until his playing days were over.

Alan Faneca's 10th (and
final) training camp at Latrobe with the Steelers. Which
NFL team will sign the All Pro?

It was the same with NFL coaches. We got used to
Madden coaching
the Raiders. Shula at Miami.
Stram barking at the Chiefs.
Landry
suited-up on his sideline office in Dallas.
Bum hosting cookouts
for Earl and the rest of the Oilers team. It was so much easier keeping track of things back then.
A player or
coach represented a specific team. We were spoiled. But like everything in life, the NFL continues to change and
evolve.
(Does anyone else still think of Mike Holmgren forever being
the Packers coach? I'm confused...)
